Screenplay of “50/50” was based on real experiences of the film’s scriptwriter, Will Reiser, who at the age of 25 heard a horrifying diagnosis: cancer. However, full of life, the man did not intend to give in to the pessimistic prognoses, and has remodelled, recast his life experiences into a bitter-sweet screenplay. Reiser nevertheless underlines the full autonomy of the Adam Lerner character, an average twenty-something who shares with his creator mainly his great will to live and the ability to joke about grave matters. The character of Adam gains additional credibility and warmth thanks to the very intuitive acting of Joseph Gordon–Levitt.
