Film based on a short story by an Israeli writer Etgar Keret whose works are typically wrought with irony, distance, ambiguity and black humour. It is reflected in art concept in animation. Conciseness of the prose, rich imagery and non-linear narration are best rendered in an animated film. Hand drawn, slightly smudged frames offer the viewer a sense of vividness and tangibility of created forms. Handprints of the artist are visible on the frames and in result we are allowed to get to know his so very intimate side – we see his shortcomings, disorder and lack of self-control. The author chose “The Uterus” with regard to “strong impression the short story made on me. Apparently senseless story is full of surprising ideas and sudden turns of events, is rich in dynamically changing images. No sophisticated words are necessary to convey a complicated, surreal vision of an imagined world by means of letters. Depressing and arrogant prose radiates with hidden optimism.“
