The film is an allegory of life, told through retrospective narration. The main character re-lives experiences that make up the total of human existence. Although the scenes might appear to be taken from ordinary life they are in fact of symbolic significance – beginning from the one where a bicycle turns up whose rotating wheel stands for circular movement of life. It leads the viewers into a square where circular movement is still visible, this time through barrel organ playing and a spinning carousel. In a shop window the character notices a reflected silhouette – a pierrot signifying fate. With fear and distrust she takes up the challenge. At the crossroads, she decides to rely on his verdicts.
