Awarded with two Golden Bears at the 62nd MFF in Berlin. A scandalising story based on true events, the subject of which is a royal triangle where love, power, and madness permeate.

Karolina Matylda Hanowerska had been prepared to the role of a queen since a very early age. Full of hope and images of the ideal man, she comes to a foreign country to rule by the side of her husband. However, reality disappoints her. Chrystian VII is a grotesque madman in love with himself and with courtly entertainment. When his further excesses ruin the country, the physician Johann Friedrich Struensee is called to the court. He is to curb the king’s temperament and bizarre behaviour. Johann infatuates the queen and, behind the king’s back, reaches for his power to change the face of the country.
