A film based on Wiesław Myśliwski’s drama. A small village during the changes associated with the agricultural reform in 1945. Despite the inevitable change, the steward artificially maintains the hitherto prevailing order of relations with the terminally ill count. Fully isolating the heir from the surrounding revolution is impossible, though. While he becomes increasingly aware of the gravity of the situation, the age-old ritual becomes a disturbing game between the two men.
