A film based on Wiesław Myśliwski’s prominent novel, the literary event of the year 1984. A dangerous accident and disability make Szymon Pietruszka revalue his life and turn to his family. After leaving the hospital, the man sets out on a journey throughout the countryside in search of his elder brother, Michał. By means of the memories of the people he meets, Szymon learns about his brother’s second side – that of a man who brilliantly climbed the social ladder and was later humiliated, brutally betrayed by an idea. “One Stone Upon Another” emphasises the individual drama of a rustic epic which presents the events of a countryside in the first half of the 20th century. It delves particularly deep into the meanders of the post-war political entanglement of the country, and the consequences connected with being engaged in building a new, socialist reality.
