“Nothing funny ever befell me in my life” – the deceased Adam Miauczynski (Cezary Pazura) sums up his luckless life in a comic and tragic internal monologue. Review of achievements of a forty-year-old, unknown director, lying on a dissection table – a life full of discreditable albeit funny foul-ups both in his private and in professional life until a pathetic death caused by fear of a kids wellington – indeed invites a viewer to deliberation with an ironic edge.

Part of critics compared Koterski’s film to the famous “Bad luck” by Andrzej Munk. In many respects Miauczynski resembles Piszczyk. Both of them are perpetually unlucky and their ambitions are directly proportional to their habitual failing. His grotesque and humorous incidents convey also deeper contents regarding Polish faults, complexes and limitations.
