Páll lives between two worlds: the real world and the world of imagination. Both are equally clear to him. His family life is happy and peaceful, but when his beloved Dagny breaks his heart, the protagonist will have a nervous breakdown and will be put in a mental institution. There he manages to create an alternative social circle that consists of  Óli, who composes songs for the Beatles and telephatically sends them to England; aristocratic Victor, who occasionally becomes an incarnation of Hitler; and Pétur, who has supposedly written his doctoral thesis on Schiller at a renowned university in China.

Doctor Páll says what might be the commentary by the director himself. Schizophrenia is deeply rooted in the hearts of Icelanders. Those who believe in trolls, fairies and elves are in a way predestined to have a divided soul.
